Traditional Terrace Design for Al Fresco Entertaining & Relaxation

15.03.19

In this case study Project Manager Martin Owen tells us about a local project in the seaside town Frinton-On-Sea, just a stone’s throw away from our factory and workshop. With a recent kitchen extension to the home, this project was intended to complement the extension and the style of the home whilst creating a sheltered area for outdoor relaxation and entertainment.

The client initially considered a contemporary pergola design; however, they were keen to replicate the architectural features found on their home, particularly the window arch detail. So, their decision was to go with traditional iroko trellis panels and matching trellis gate to provide privacy to the side of the house, along with a large pergola above a new terrace that overlooks the rear garden, adding to the traditional style of the structure and wooden trellis. All products were painted in a bespoke off-white colour that complemented the product designs and the rest of the house perfectly.

There were a few obstacles to overcome throughout the project. At the time of installation, the new paving area underneath the pergola was still under construction, making it a little difficult to set the brackets for the wooden posts onto concrete footings. The Garden Trellis Company team overcame this by setting precise dimensions so that the paving for the terrace could be added around the concrete footings after the pergola was installed.

Here at The Garden Trellis Company we are proud to have a skilled team of designers and craftsmen who were able to create a traditional design for this project that complemented the client’s Edwardian home. The structure works well with the architecture of the house and the client is delighted. They are really looking forward to using the extended kitchen, terrace and pergola this summer to entertain friends and relax outside.

Let’s hope we enjoy another warm and pleasant summer!
