The best of 2022 and four top trends for 2023

Diamond

It’s that time of year where we reflect on our favourite recent projects and try to predict what we think the trends will be for the next season. Read on for our latest garden design ideas. Be inspired to try something a bit different and make your outdoor space distinctive. We’ve got tips on how to be playful with colour and texture, getting prepared to keep cool in the summer, and covering up unsightly driveway items.

1. Mix it up

We have worked on several bespoke projects recently where the garden designers have chosen a mixture of square and diagonal trellis. This is sometimes determined by requirements for climbing planting, or it can be because the designers want to have the calming effect of the square trellis combined with privacy from diagonal trellis.

On the topic of ‘mixing it up’, it can also be effective to combine more than one paint colour in garden joinery schemes. We can make beautiful bespoke two-tone trellis in complimenting colours. A simpler option is to simply have your fence posts and top capping a different colour from the rest of the joinery. You can easily select this look from our online shop. 2. Decorative trellis with mirrors

Including mirrors in garden designs adds light and a sense of space even in the smallest courtyards. It might sound obvious, but make sure there is something beautiful opposite any mirrors so that you can enjoy what they reflect.

3. Keeping cool in summer

It might not feel like it in the depths of winter, but summers are getting hotter, and we have plenty of options to help make the best of your outdoor space. It always pays to be ready for a heat wave and now could be a great time to start thinking about how you will keep cool on those hotter days. Bespoke pergolas are great for adding shade to sunspots and a relaxing spot for outdoor dining.

If you are lucky to have a pool, or are thinking about getting one, our trellis and slatted panels add privacy and some protection from those slightly chilly breezes. You can also be reassured that by adding some vertical planting around a pool it is off-setting some of the greenery that might have been taken away when the pool was added.

Our bespoke air con covers have also become increasingly popular. If the area the unit sits in doesn’t quite warrant the beauty of bespoke, but could still benefit from being covered up, we are excited to have recently developed a ready-made air con unit cover which should fit most standard sized air con units. The trellis slats allow easy airflow whilst covering up the unsightly air conditioning units. On the theme of covering things up, wooden trellis panels and our Vista Decorative Screens can also be used to screen oil tanks and air source heat pumps.

4. Driveways with a difference

Make sure you make the right first impression to your property with a smart and tidy driveway. Our trellis and slatted panels are an attractive way to add privacy from the neighbours without blocking the light too much.

If you have an electric car charger, you might be interested to explore installing a bespoke car charger cover (see further inspiration for integrated storage solutions). Our bespoke and ready-made bin stores are also hugely popular to help cover up unsightly wheelie bins and make outdoor spaces to be proud of.
