Case Study: Bespoke painted trellis for enchanting London residential project

We caught up briefly with garden designer, Butter Wakefield, after another one of her truly exceptional garden transformations. We were delighted to create various bespoke trellis installations for this enchanting project in a residential property for a creative young couple.

In this project, Garden Trellis Company project manager Martin Owen worked closely with Butter Wakefield to bring her beautiful design to life, manufacturing and installing bespoke painted trellis for the project.

Butter Wakefield’s design required bespoke joinery to add impact and interest while remaining functional. The main garden at the rear of the property used trellis panels on top of a wall, as well as decorative mirrored trellis panels to frame water features, bringing her signature style and atmosphere to the garden.

We also provided bespoke trellis panels for a roof terrace off the client’s main bedroom.

The bespoke joinery manufactured by our team predominantly used softwood, with some tricoya for the decorative elements. All the joinery was painted in our specialist paint shop in Farrow & Ball Studio Green.

Why did you and your client choose Farrow & Ball studio green for the joinery?

“The rear windows and woodwork were painted in studio green, so it felt a natural follow on from the detail of the house. And it’s a fabulous exterior paint colour.”

What features of the project are particularly noteworthy and why?

“The Vande Moortel brick paving is a very pleasing design and the round antique stone trough is set off beautifully by the mirrored trellis behind. The surrounding boundary trellis helps to create a sense of privacy and vertical emphasis.”

What are the stand-out reasons for working with The Garden Trellis Company for the garden joinery elements of your projects?

“The beautiful bespoke detailing and the level of skill that the joiners have in installing the trellis is phenomenal, it’s measured and specified and built but it’s really the talented joiners installing it who bring it life.”

Overall, how would you describe the outcome of the project?

“It’s a delightfully detail rich project with lots of stand-out elements and I’m particularly keen on the estate railings that divide the garden in two, and they’re enhanced with the beautiful espalier pear trees. It’s really detail rich, interesting, and full of romantic dreamy qualities.”

We always love the designs and outcomes Butter Wakefield creates for her clients and are proud to continually work closely with her to bring her vision to life through our bespoke joinery.
