The Garden Trellis Co is an eco-conscious company that values sustainable business practices. We understand the impact that businesses have on the environment and believe that it is our responsibility to make conscious choices that promote sustainability. In this blog post for Earth Day, we would like to highlight four of our sustainable steps that we have taken to reduce our carbon footprint.
1. Responsibly sourced timber
We are committed to sourcing our timber responsibly. As members of Timber Development UK, we ensure that our timbers are sourced from responsible sources containing a minimum of 70% timber from FSC® and PEFC compliant sources. By buying products identified with either schemes logo, you are supporting the growth of responsible forest management worldwide.
2. Solar panels on the workshop roof
We have recently installed solar panels on our workshop roof which will result in a 60% reduction in CO2 emissions. The peak power capability of the solar panels is 218kWp. This reduces our reliance on The National Grid and gives us the opportunity to sell back some of the excess power.
Additionally, we have taken measures to optimize our production processes to consume less power, thereby further reducing our carbon footprint.
3. Biomass
We have a powerful dust extraction system which feeds our Biomass Boiler. This not only makes the working environment safe, it also allows us to recycle our waste timber to heat the workshops, in particular our paint shop’s drying rooms. All our painted products are placed there to cure in heat and humidity-controlled rooms. This not only reduces waste but also provides a more sustainable source of energy for our operations.
4. Tree planting
In addition to sourcing materials through recognised sustainable sources we have also pledged to plant one tree for every order. This is through our partnership with Ecologi. Our customers can find out more about this program and add to or view the virtual forest here >
At The Garden Trellis Co, we are committed to continuously improving our environmental footprint and are always looking for new ways to innovate.
