Find out how we worked with award-winning garden designer, Paul Baines MSGD on this gorgeous Mediterranean Pool Courtyard Garden, creating a large ‘L’ shaped pergola and over 50 slatted panels.
Imagine this: you are eating lunch with friends in the shade of a pergola, sheltered from a cool breeze by contemporary slatted panels following an invigorating swim in the pool with the sound of the water feature creating a refreshing ambience. Later on, you might have a siesta on the sun loungers before relaxing in the hot tub as the day cools. This dream garden is now a reality on the site of a former horse manège in Essex, thanks to the vision and creativity of designer Paul Baines and some excellent teamwork.
The brief from the client was to create an enclosed courtyard garden incorporating a swimming pool, seating terraces, hot tub and garden room for leisure and entertaining purposes. There is a Mediterranean feel throughout the scheme including in the stunning planting.
Led by product manager Howard King, the Garden Trellis Co was proud to make and fit over 50 slatted panels (45mm slat with 5mm gap) around the courtyard, as well as bespoke pedestrian gates enclosing the courtyard, and the ‘L’ shaped pergola that is located within the garden. All the joinery was handcrafted in our Essex workshop from Western Red Cedar.
We caught up with Howard to find out more about the technical details of the project. “Because a lot of the landscaping was taking place during our installation we had to leave out some of the panels so that the landscapers could get their equipment in and out, for us to return to fix the panels when the landscapers were complete.” Howard explains, “For the pergola, we had to use adjustable feet on the bottom of the posts, fixed to pre-prepared concrete pads, to ensure we could make the levels of the pergolas work.”
Overall how would you describe the outcome of the project?
