A cheerful revamp: bringing the outside in for The Doyle Collection
The Garden Trellis Co was delighted to partner with The Doyle Collection’s in-house design team on a bespoke joinery project to refurbish the breakfast room at The Bloomsbury Hotel in central London. The goal was to create an uplifting and luxurious morning room, transforming the dated décor with custom-crafted features that evoke the feeling of dining in an elegant outdoor space.
This bespoke project was managed by Naomi Pulchan, who ensured seamless integration of the joinery into the hotel’s concentrated refurbishment schedule.

The brief and inspiration
The Doyle Collection’s design team approached The Garden Trellis Co with a clear vision: to incorporate bespoke trellis into the breakfast room, which they aptly named ‘The Trellis Room’. The inspiration was to give hotel guests the relaxing and airy sensation of being outside for their morning meal, regardless of the London weather.
A key detail for the design was the custom paint finish. The client required a precise colour match to Farrow & Ball’s ‘Charlotte’s Locks’, chosen specifically to complement a signature flower that would feature in vases on tables in the room. Our task was to translate the design team’s drawings into manufactured reality, focusing on meticulous craftsmanship and slightly complex installation logistics.

The solution and craftsmanship
The core of the installation involved a series of bespoke panels, crafted from durable Thermally Treated Timber and finished in the distinctive, vibrant paint colour. To enhance the feeling of space and light, some of the panels featured mirror backing.
This addition of mirrors introduced a significant challenge, as it made the panels exceptionally heavy. Project Manager Naomi Pulchan and her team had to implement specialist solutions:
- Since some hotel walls were constructed with studwork, a robust pleat system was engineered and used to safely and securely fix the panels to the wall.
- A particularly noteworthy piece was an extremely large mirror-backed panel, measuring 2m high by 3.5m wide. Due to its size, the mirror could not be sourced in a single piece. Our joinery workshop devised an innovative solution, constructing the panel with extra thick timbers, ply backing, and a double-depth frame. This custom build was essential to provide the necessary support and precision for a multi-piece mirror installation, ensuring a flawless, luxury finish.
We ensured a flexible installation schedule and maintained constant on-site engagement, making multiple visits to coordinate with other contractors and adapt swiftly to any amendments in the construction timeline.

Outcome: a luxury destination
The Bloomsbury Hotel’s breakfast room was successfully transformed into a vibrant and inviting space. The installation of the painted, mirrored trellis fulfilled the brief of creating an “outside-in” experience for guests.
As Naomi described the final result: “A cheerful revamp of the morning room for a luxury hotel in central London.” The Trellis Room now serves as an elegant, unforgettable destination, showcasing how bespoke joinery can be used to dramatically refresh and elevate a high-end commercial space.
