Today is Santa Lucia Day, or St Lucy’s day, the bringer of light.December 13th was the Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year, in the old ‘Julian’ Calendar a pagan festival of lights is celebrated in Sweden known as Santa Lucia’s Day.Traditionally young girls wear a white dress with a red sash round her waist and a crown of candles on her head.
The shortest day in the modern calendar is the 22nd December, but what it does mean is that with the days getting longer and lighter, it won’t be long before spring!Two children in white outfits, one wearing a star hat and holding a wand, the other with candles on her head.
