Time-lapse video - The story of a storm damaged arbour

19.12.16

When a customer approached us recently about replacing a unique 30-year-old rose arbour we knew we had a challenge on our hands. The original seasoned oak arbour had been damaged beyond repair in a storm and our client not only wanted a new arbour to replace the original, but the design also needed to match other elements in the garden design that had survived the storm.

To replicate the original as closely as possible our project manager and designer, James, first prepared a CAD design drawing for the new rose arbour based on photographs of the original. With the client, he also chose to build the new bespoke timber feature in an oak timber similar to the seasoned oak used in the original.

With the design agreed, the expert joiners set to work to build the new design timber structure in our joinery workshop in Essex. The diagonal trellis styled pillars gave the pergola its distinctive intricate look, while the bell-shaped timber beams created an elegant and classic finish topped off with a custom designed centrepiece finial. The new structure was first assembled in full in the workshop to ensure a perfect fit on all joints before being deconstructed for transportation to the client’s garden for reassembly and permanent installation.

The time-lapse video below shows the installation in action and the rebirth of this garden’s distinctive rose arbour.

Seeing the client’s idea for a recreation of their storm-damaged arbour grow from the drawing board to the completed feature on site has been immensely satisfying not only for them but for us too.
